No leather has the softness, pliability and durability with extraordinary tensile strength like kangaroo leather; and nowhere has the art of plaiting leather been more truly practiced than in Australia. Since the pioneering days, plaiting kangaroo leather has been widely practiced in Australia, particularly by men on the remote sheep and cattle stations of the outback and in drovers’ camps and shearing sheds, who have given to this ancient art a unique Australian style.
The skins are obtained through the Australian Government’s kangaroo conservation scheme and are tanned with an extract from the bark of the wattle tree. The thongs are cut, prepared and plaited by hand.
