There are a lot of myths as to what the oilskin product is made from. Many people think the Oilskin product is an animal product because of the word skin in oilskin. This is far from the truth. We wish to end this myth.
The oilskin fabric is made of 100% tightly woven cotton that is impregnated with a solution of special oils and waxes to ensure maximum rain, snow and wind protection. Another common term used for this fabric is waxed cotton.
This makes the oilskin a highly durable and long lasting product. Unlike synthetic and nylon products, the oilskin has a natural feel and because it is a natural product, it provides excellent breathability.
Traditionally the oilskin surface is usually finished with an oily surface that can crease profusely. Our claim to fame is a non oily surface that is finished with an anti-crease finish. This allows us to make products not only for the outdoors but to look ahead and provide a product as a fashion garment. So if you’re in the market for an oilskin product, we ask to please have a look and consider a Sambar product before you purchase any product.
Oilskin Cloth
Garments made from wax impregnated oilskin cloth, are almost carefree, and will last for many years to come. To clean your oilskin garment simply wipe or hose down with tepid water. To dry, hang in a cool well ventilated area and allow to drip dry.
Important
Avoid contact with direct sunlight (e.g direct sunlight through windows), spirits, acids, alkalis, fertilisers and other chemical dusts. If this occurs wash immediately in tepid water and refurbish with spinifex 500 reproofing compound.
Garments should be reproofed every 2-3 years depending on the usage. We recommend only Spinifex 500 reproofing compound be used.
